GymPact & DIY Workout Armband for CellPhone

2 Feb

GymPact, New Feature!

I signed up for the phone app, GymPact, a few weeks ago. For those of you unfamiliar, check it out, it’s a really neat tool that helps keep you motivated to workout!

My pact is that I must get to the gym at least 3x/week or else I pay $5.00 to GymPact for each gym session I miss. Since getting the app three weeks ago, I’ve made my pact and then some – Until this week . . . I got pretty sick, so I skipped working out Monday through Wednesday.

Once Thursday evening came around, I started feeling better and realized I still needed to get in my three workouts before the week was over! It was so late that I didn’t feel like going to the gym, so I thought I’d try GymPact’s new workout-at-home feature.

This new feature uses the accelerometer in your phone to track movement. As long as you move around for at least 30 minutes your workout counts toward your pact for the week.

Now, I just needed to strap on my phone, and get moving! Only problem was, I had no armband to keep my phone on me while I worked out . . .

DIY Armband for Cell Phone

I ended up searching online and found a REALLY easy solution. So easy that I couldn’t believe I hadn’t thought of it myself!

DIY Armband Out Of an Old Sock!

Step 1: Get A Sock & Pair Of Scissors

Sock must be big enough to fit around your upper arm

I used an old soccer sock.

Step 2: Cut Sock Above the “foot” Part

Full Sock minus “foot” Sock = Tube Sock!

Step 4: Pull Tube Sock Up Your Arm and Fold Cell Phone Inside!

Sock Arm Band

The arm band worked really well! My phone stayed in place the entire time while I jumped rope, did lunges, some sit-ups and a few other miscellaneous things to keep myself moving around!

The at-home GymPact feature worked great as well! I’ll do a follow-up blog with a little more detail and how to make sure you get credit for your full 30 minutes of working out, but for now I’ll just say –> I definitely recommend it if you need a little “push” of motivation to workout at home or get to the gym!

BBQ Seitan – Racquetball – Food Journal

17 Jan

Quick update for today!

Light breakfast: Apple + PB2 & cocoa powder

Lunch: Veg’n Chicken with couscous and peas (+ vegan cookie)

Post-Workout: Whey Protein Shake w/cocoa and vanilla bean extract

Dinner: I tried a BBQ Seitan Recipe I found online that was pretty simple. Equal parts Balsamic, Soy Sauce, and BBQ + water. I skipped the water, and added more BBQ sauce because I didn’t like the strong vinegar taste. I also mixed all sauces together before putting it over the seitan vs. adding one by one as the recipe has.

I have leftovers for tomorrow and will definitely make this again! It was very filling.

I’m really starting to love cooking with seitan! I didn’t realize how close in taste and texture it was to meat until I made this Vegan Beef Stroganoff recipe last week (I followed the recipe exact, and it turned out great! Even my picky husband and non-veg’n sister enjoyed it!) Also, it’s very high in protein and can easily be bought pre-made in Whole Foods or the Natural Foods Section at the grocery.

As a veg’n it’s not hard to get enough protein, but it is something I have to be aware of, at least right now when I’m cutting calories for weight loss. So, this is something that really ups my protein intake while staying low in calories.

Well, I Meant To Workout, But…

20 Nov

Today started with the best intentions of working out…

BUT, despite my good intentions I wound up running around like a mad-woman today –> Class, Veterinarian Office, Grocery Shopping,  Cooking, Cleaning, Taking a two-hour online ‘pre-course‘ so I can enroll in an online class next semester, then ate some dinner, and started preparing for this math placement test I have to take tomorrow.

My advisor instructed me to take this test instead of waiting for my transfer credit to come in so that I can schedule a physics class. She assured me, “it’s just basic stuff, you’ve had algebra and calculus in your past transcript, you’ll be fine!”. Once I got home and started looking over the sample questions I realized how much I’ve forgotten since grade level math! Polynomials, radicals, multiplying exponents, improper fractions, … WHAT?? I’m convinced now that I was, in fact, smarter as a fifth grader … sad realization…

Anyway! While I did not go to the gym today, I did a good job of staying in my calorie range!

Breakfast: PB Bagel and Apple

Lunch: Marinated Baked Tofu, Breaded Okra, Peas

Dinner: Mexican (Beans on Corn Tortillas with Cilantro, Romaine, Salsa, and Avocado)

Here’s my food breakdown for today (below)

Check out my calendar to see how I’ve been doing for this week!

Thanks for checking in guys! Have a great day!
